Oral tablet for flea control in dogs
Description and Composition
Oral tablets of 4 strengths are available:
- PROGRAM 23.1mg TAL, a tablet containing 23.1 mg of lufenuron.
- PROGRAM 67.8mg TAL, a tablet containing 67.8 mg of lufenuron.
- PROGRAM 204.9mg TAL, a tablet containing 204.9mg of lufenuron.
- PROGRAM 409.8mg TAL, tablet containing 409.8 mg of lufenuron.
PropertiesLufenuron, the active ingredient of PROGRAM, is an insect development inhibitor
(IDI) belonging to the group of benzoyl-phenyl-ureas (BPUs). Like all BPU's,
lufenuron acts as a chitin synthesis inhibitor. Female fleas feeding on treated
animals will produce eggs out of which no larvae will hatch. The interruption of
the flea life cycle results in a long-term, very effective flea control on the
animal as well as in the environment.
Indications
Program TAL is an oral tablet for dogs for the prevention and control of flea
infestations.
Dosage and Administration
PROGRAM TAL is given orally with food at the minimum dose of 10mg lufenuron per kg body
weight according to the following table:
| Weight of dog |
Tablets |
| Up to 2.3 kg |
1 tablet of PROGRAM 23.1 mg |
| > 2.3 to 6.7 kg |
1 tablet of PROGRAM 67.8 mg |
| > 6.7 to 20 kg |
1 tablet of PROGRAM 204.9 mg |
| > 20 to 40 kg |
1 tablet of PROGRAM 409.8 mg |
Dogs over 40 kg are given an appropriate combination of tablets.
PROGRAM TAL should be given orally once per month. Treatment of existing
infestations can begin at any time. In cases of severe infestations the use of
an adulticide during the first few weeks of the treatment may be necessary.
PROGRAM TAL is best used in a prophylactic way. In this case treatment should
start in spring, before the beginning of the flea season, and repeated monthly
throughout the flea season. PROGRAM can be given year round.
All dogs and cats in a household must be treated in order to prevent the build
up of developing fleas in the environment, thus establishing an infestation. For
cats use PROGRAM oral suspension or PROGRAM Injectable suspension for cats.
PROGRAM TAL must be administered with a meal. It can be given with a small
quantity of food before the rest of the meal is given, or per os immediately
after feeding.
